Walter,
Rick and I just want to say how pleased we are with the addition to our home. Your sub-contractors were very professional, showed up on time and did quality work.
Jeff, Aaron and Esron could not have been more accommodating. Whenever we had a question or a concern about some aspect of the construction, they made sure that it was taken care of until we were satisfied.
Living through the construction was easy knowing that we were working with trust-worthy, honorable people who take pride in their work.
We would certainly recommend you to anyone that we know who would be looking for a general contractor.
Thanks again!
Sincerely,

Rick & Kelley Broussard

We assure you that this is the type of experience we provide each and every one of our clients. Call us today for a free estimate and we promise you that you will be just as pleased as the Broussards!

Guillot Building recently completed a custom home project for a client who didn’t have a fixed budget. But just because someone doesn’t have a budget, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are looking to waste money.

Some clients want to do things as inexpensively as possible. That’s fine, too, but this man wasn’t one of them. The client told me that he wanted the top-end of available materials, and he was willing to pay whatever it took. At the same time, he was looking for value. He didn’t want extravagance for the sake of it. Needless to say, we were glad to help him to find the materials and fixtures that were stylish and well-made without being over-the-top expensive.

-Walter Guillot

For example, this client was interested in the elegant, high-end look that marble floors can give a home. If that was the only option available, he probably would have asked Guillot Building to install them. But Walter Guillot, Jr., and the flooring sub-contractor that was working on the home sat down with the client. Together, they discussed a number of different options with him.

Eventually, the client decided to use travertine for his floors. Not as well known among consumers as marble is, travertine is a sedimentary rock whose use in flooring dates back to classical antiquity. Things haven’t changed much in that travertine is still valued for its classic appearance. The substance looks regal and elegant like marble, but travertine tiles generally cost about half as much. This client decided that travertine tiles gave him the style he was searching for while also giving him the value that was important to him.

It wasn’t just for the flooring…For this client, in all aspects of this custom-built house we worked closely with him to decide upon features that suited his tastes and fit with his sense of value. I am happy to say he was extremely satisfied with the end results.”.Walter Guilot

No matter who the client is, no matter the financial limitations, Guillot Building successfully works within the parameters given. At Guillot Building, the aim is to give clients the quality and style they want at prices that match their needs.

Many cities and suburbs in the United States are filled with sprawling subdivisions of identical-looking, cookie-cutter homes. But in New Orleans, we don’t forget the past. We love the old architecture of our city and value its preservation. At the same time, we know it’s important to stay with the times. After all, the way homes were built 100 years ago don’t always mesh well with the lifestyles of the 21st century.

Guillot Building was called by a couple—the wife who is a professor and the husband a salesman—to take on a renovation project and to create an addition. This couple owned a house that had been in their family a long time. They loved its character and kept a sentimental attachment to it. So many wonderful events had taken place in the space. The couple knew the stories the walls could tell. They didn’t want to move, but they needed the home to expand with their growing family and lifestyle needs.

Considering the lot the house occupied and their situation, the best choice to make was to go up. The workers of Guillot Building took down the antique chandeliers to be put in storage. When everything was ready and the couple had taken up residence in a rented apartment, the workers tore off the roof and constructed a second story on top of the ground floor.

We were conscientious to make the second story to match the design of the original house, Our clients wanted everything to have a coherent look to it.

- Walter Guillot, Jr., the president of Guillot Building

While the home was undergoing renovations, the clients also took the opportunity to redo the first floor. For one, Guillot Building renovated the kitchen. The contractors pulled out the old cabinets and installed new ones. They opened up the walls so sight lines were clear from the kitchen to the den and to the dining room. The overall effect was a more open and airy home. They also refinished the hardwood floors for a look that remained historic but no longer appeared worn.

We kept the moldings and materials of what was there. Our goal was to update the house while keeping true to the original as much as possible. I believe we met that goal.Walter Guillot

When it was all completed, the couple had a 1,000-square foot addition that included a new master bedroom and two new bathrooms. Of course, there is also a beautiful new downstairs. The renovations took four months, and now the couple is back home and happily enjoying their new space.

Most of Guillot Building’s clients are looking for custom homes built in the New Orleans area or hire the building company for New Orleans renovation projects. But Guillot Building travels farther afield when asked to do so.

A New Orleans local at one time had a vacation home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The home unfortunately was in the path Hurricane Katrina’s landfall in 2005. It goes without saying that the house was destroyed by the incredible power of the high winds and surging water.

Five years later, the man who owns the property assembled together the motivation and the resources he needed to rebuild. He called on Guillot Building for the task.

My team of sub-contractors and I traveled out to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to help our client reclaim his favorite vacation spot, We were glad to do it.

- Walter Guillot, Jr., the owner of Guillot Building

Guillot and the client worked with a draftsman to create a plan for the new structure. Learning from mistakes in the past, the client wanted the new building eight feet off the ground in order to be elevated out of the way from the surges of future storms. In that space underneath the building, Guillot laid down a concrete parking area for boats and cars.

As the property is located so close to the water, Guillot used Hardiplank for the home’s exterior finish. This siding is made of a sturdy fiber cement and was a superior choice to other siding options. Vinyl siding grows brittle in the sun, aluminum siding can corrode, and wood siding rots without frequent maintenance, especially in the Gulf air.

The house itself is a single story space. It’s not too big but just the right size for a weekend getaway. There’s a master bedroom for the owners and a second one for guests. The interior also contains a large den and a kitchen. A screened-in front porch and a open-air back deck offer relaxing outdoor spaces for lounging. Except for ceramic tile in the bathroom, rustic wood floors are used throughout the home.

“The home is custom built so it’s exactly how the owner envisioned it. For him and his family, we constructed a wonderful vacation getaway. We loved working on this house, says Guillot.
